Albus Dumbledore Fact File Body Text

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was Headmaster of [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) and the founder of the [Order of the Phoenix](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/order-of-the-[phoenix](/fact-file/creatures/phoenix)), an organisation dedicated to defeating [Lord Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort). With a penchant for Muggle sweets and a beard long enough to be tucked into his belt, Dumbledore's quirky exterior should not be taken too lightly, for there was nothing that got past this great wizard. Dumbledore was a father figure for [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter), and known to be the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared.

A man of many achievements, Dumbledore helped develop the [Philosopher's Stone](/fact-file/objects/the-philosophers-stone) with his friend, Nicolas Flamel, and was credited with discovering the twelve uses of dragon's blood.

The Philosopher’s Stone was legendary, with the power not only to turn metals into gold but also to produce the Elixir of Life, giving its drinker immortality. A magical mirror that showed the "deepest and most desperate desire of our hearts", the viewer could see their reflected self in a state of perfect happiness. [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) first encountered the Mirror of Erised in his first year at the school where he realised he could see himself surrounded by his family. [Ron Weasley,](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) meanwhile, saw himself as being more successful than any of his many siblings, while Dumbledore claimed to see himself holding a pair of thick woollen socks. Although the Mirror could offer great comfort to those who looked into it, it could also be dangerous for people who were unable to walk away from the dreams it offered, but could not provide.

Nicolas Flamel Fact File Body Text

Nicolas Flamel was a French wizard, an inventor and alchemist who famously created [the Philosopher's Stone](/fact-file/objects/the-philosophers-stone) - a source of eternal life. Along with his wife Perenelle, Nicolas consumed the Elixir of Life for many centuries. Due to his age, Flamel witnessed many events of wizarding history, including the rise and fall of [Gellert Grindelwald](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/gellert-grindelwald) and Lord Voldemort. He was even named on Dumbledore's Chocolate Frog card.

Gringotts Fact File Body Text

The wizarding bank located in [Diagon Alley](/fact-file/locations/diagon-alley), Gringotts was owned and operated by [goblins](/fact-file/creatures/goblin). Dating back to 1474 the cavernous tunnels lead miles underground and stretch out beneath the streets of London, with the highest-security vaults located the deepest. The carts, used to navigate the mine-like deep tunnels, and keys, used to open the vaults, can only be operated by goblins. Although Gringotts was arguably one of the safest places in the wizarding world (as [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) said, "yeh'd be mad ter try an' rob it"), it has been subject to breaches of its security.
