The Wizengamot served as both wizarding Britain's High Court and their parliament, undertaking both legislative work and legal tribunals. The administrative headquarters were located in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the Ministry, whilst trials took place in the the dungeons. Albus Dumbledore was Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot for a time and presided over the council of fifty members, all of whom wore plum-coloured robes embroidered with an elaborately woven silver W on the chest. After Harry Potter produced a Patronus (to defend himself and Dudley Dursley against two Dementors) he was charged with breaching the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery but cleared by the Wizengamot.
