The Hogwarts library contained many thousands of books, manuscripts and documents. Students were able to read and borrow most titles, although access to the Restricted Section was much more tightly regulated. The school librarian, Madam Pince, was well known for being particularly strict about students making noise and mess - and eating in the library was strictly forbidden!
