Diagon Alley Fact File Body Text

Located behind [the Leaky Cauldron](/fact-file/locations/the-leaky-[cauldron](/fact-file/objects/cauldron)) pub, Diagon Alley was the main shopping street for the UK’s wizarding community. With its ancient buildings and cobbled streets, Diagon Alley was often a busy place, particularly before term started as [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) students rushed to get the books and equipment on their back-to-school lists. Shops such as Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions and Flourish and Botts sold everything from wizarding robes to cats, owls, [cauldrons](/fact-file/objects/cauldron) and quills, whilst [Ollivanders](/fact-file/locations/ollivanders) was the go-to place for finding the perfect [wand](/fact-file/objects/wand). The Alley was also home to [Gringotts](/fact-file/locations/gringotts) wizarding bank, and was connected to Knockturn Alley - a more sinister shopping street devoted to the Dark Arts.

Gilderoy Lockhart Fact File Body Text

A celebrity author who had written many popular books before he joined [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) as a [Defence Against the Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/defence-against-the-dark-arts) teacher in [Harry's](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) second year, Lockhart was popular for his good looks, charm and fantastic stories. However, in the classroom it soon became clear that his experience and knowledge didn't quite match up to his extravagant claims.

A shop for books and school supplies, Flourish and Blotts was located in [Diagon Alley](/fact-file/locations/diagon-alley). The bookshop not only sold schoolbooks, but also hosted book signings for famous writers such as [Gilderoy Lockhart](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/gilderoy-lockhart). Although most sales were straightforward, some books were less easy to promote - The Invisible Book of Invisibility stock ended up going missing, while The Monster Book of Monsters was so violent that it tried to bite the manager when he went to take it from the shelf.

The Weasleys Fact File Body Text

The Weasley family were a well established wizarding family and were included in the Sacred Twenty-Eight - a list of [pure-blood](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/pure-blood) wizarding families published in the 1930s. However, the Weasley family were dismissive of the list and were advocates of equality with Muggle-born witches and wizards. The Weasleys lived in a topsy-turvy rural home, [The Burrow](/fact-file/locations/the-burrow), and although they were not wealthy and it was crowded with seven children and constant visitors, there was always room for [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) when he needed a place to stay.

[Draco Malfoy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/draco-malfoy)'s father had been a Death Eater and one of [Lord Voldemort's](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort-tom-riddle) closest allies. With his pale, long blonde hair and cold stare, Lucius Malfoy was a striking figure and had no qualms in interfering in [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) matters to make sure he, or Draco, always got what he wanted - and his influence at [the Ministry of Magic](/fact-file/locations/the-ministry-of-magic) certainly helped too.
