The upcoming game Harry Potter: Wizards Unite has just released a very small teaser ‘trace’ for us to ponder over. The star of the show? A ‘discombobulated’ Niffler...

In the short clip below, we see a little Niffler having fun inside what must be one of its favourite places in the world: an arcade coin pusher machine.

As two young Muggle ladies look on in amusement, we see a profile of the Niffler pop up with a threat level indicator, a ‘Registry’ list and a concept illustration. ‘Magic at large’ is stamped across the whole thing. But what does it all mean?

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, co-developed by Niantic and WB Games will be the next game to be released from the Portkey Games label. We’ve started to see small teaser videos pop up (such as this Nimbus 2000 teaser earlier this year) and now it seems Nifflers are appearing in the Muggle world too. According to Wizard Unite’s official website - our ‘help is requested by the Ministry’ and to ‘enlist now.’

The website also explains that ‘traces’ of magic (such as the lovely Niffler) are appearing all across the Muggle world. We also know that witches and wizards will need to be recruited to ‘contain the Calamity.’ Of course, by ‘witches and wizards’, it’s referring to us lot.

In the game, you will help clean up all of this magical disorder – and you’ll need to work together with friends to get things sorted out. Even the Wizards Unite logo, revealed last year, represents a symbol of unity and friendship – with Harry, Ron and Hermione’s wands infused into the lettering. Perhaps we will bump into them during the game too?

From the rogue Snitch in the deserted alleyway to the speeding riderless Nimbus 2000s, and now the Niffler, it’s clear ‘The Calamity’ is continuing to wreak havoc worldwide. We look forward to seeing what the next trace entails...

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is coming in 2019. Check the official website for more details and don’t forget to follow the game on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube. We’ll reveal more about the game soon...
