Hogwarts letters for all!
It’s time to create a new Hogwarts student, choose your house, and attend classes at the one and only Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the new mobile game, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, which launches today. First of all, here’s the trailer to whet your appetite one last time.
Created by games studio Jam City, Hogwarts Mystery is the first offering from Portkey Games, the new games label launched by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.
Portkey Games offers players the opportunity to make their own narrative choices and engage with the wizarding world setting to create new and unique experiences.
As well as being able to attend Hogwarts classes, go to Flying Class lessons, visit your chosen house’s common room (finally! A proper look inside Hufflepuff’s!), enrage Snape, or simply make new friends – the game invites you to twist the narrative in different directions, as well as giving your character a mysterious backstory.
But it’s all about the little details too: in every conversation your choice dictates your character. And not just your character. For example, we recommended one of our new friends Rowan a cool new hat, and we’re thrilled to say she took our advice in a later scene.
Although the game is not written by J.K. Rowling herself (more information on that here), the game has been lovingly honed to emulate the Hogwarts experience so you, the player, can create your very own Hogwarts story.
You can take a look at some more images from the game, including many of your favourite Hogwarts settings here – from the Great Hall to the library.
And that’s not all: actual Wizarding World royalty have returned to lend their voices to the game. From the Harry Potter films, Dame Maggie Smith reprises her role as Professor McGonagall, while Michael Gambon returns as Professor Dumbledore. Gemma Jones is back as Madam Pomfrey, Sally Mortemore as Madam Pince, Zoe Wanamaker as Madam Hooch, and Warwick Davis as Professor Flitwick.
‘Being involved in the making of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game will give great pleasure to my grandchildren,’ Maggie Smith said of the experience.
And us too, might we add.
