Harry Potter: Magic Awakened promises to do exactly this, through a new series of gameplay techniques, including a card-collecting feature with role-playing elements. The fusion of gaming styles is bound to give you a unique experience while playing! So, be prepared for the unexpected.

As the game rolls out across the world, did you know Harry Potter: Magic Awakened was already a big success in mainland China? The game was released there in 2021, and became one of China’s most successful game launches of that year. We can’t wait for our turn to play!

The game is set around 10 years after the Battle of Hogwarts

Unlike Hogwarts Legacy, which is set in the late-1800s, or Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, set in the 1980s, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened propels us into the future, albeit before the events of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

As such, this will be your first time seeing Hogwarts school in this particular era, so there’ll be several characters you will still recognise from Harry’s time as a student. Speaking of...

The trailer promises to introduce you to new characters – but you’ll also see familiar ones

The likes of Professor Hagrid, Professor Flitwick and Professor McGonagall are still hanging around Hogwarts – thank Merlin for that! Hagrid, in particular, will be an integral influence on your journey, acting as a guide as you settle into the wizarding school. And If you’re an expert on your Harry Potter canon, you can expect a few other beloved characters to be on the Hogwarts staff at this point in time!

But the game will also bring us new characters to get excited about, such as Robyn, a talented Gryffindor Quidditch player, Cassandra, your ‘mean girl’ Slytherin and Daniel, a Hogwarts student with a mysterious family past.

This is not just your standard card game

Unlike other mobile card games, Harry Potter: Magic Awakened promises to be a little bit different – infusing RPG elements and multiplayer functionality all wrapped up in a unique illustrated, picture-book art style.

Features include Dueling Club, Dance Club and a special Spellbook for you to fill in

During your Hogwarts journey, there will be several fun multiplayer activities for you to partake in, such as Dueling Club, where you can face off friends in real-time and log your success on a leaderboard. The game also will have a Dance Club minigame, which is giving us Yule Ball flashbacks – and the opportunity to roam iconic wizarding world locations with your friends, such as a stroll down Diagon Alley.

A key feature of the game will be your Spellbook, an important tool for you to start filling up, the more you learn about your magical prowess. Each spell comes with its own benefits, and players can create decks with different combinations to boost their abilities. Basically, your creativity will be key to your success at Hogwarts.

Other exciting additions include a spooky venture into the Forbidden Forest, which you can do solo, or engage in a multiplayer co-op. With all those Acromantula hanging around, you might want a bit of help! And this is just a small teaser of what to expect.
