Quidditch Fact File Body Text

Quidditch was a wizarding sport played on [broomsticks](/fact-file/objects/broomstick). The teams consisted of seven players competing to score the higher number of points, either by the Chasers (three on each team) scoring goals by throwing a Quaffle through a hoop or by the Seekers (one on each team) catching the [Golden Snitch](/fact-file/objects/golden-snitch) - at which point the game ended. Although the Snitch was worth 150 points, a game could be won the team who did not catch the Snitch if enough goals were scored before it was caught. Chasers and Seekers also had to avoid being hit by Bludgers, hard iron balls that were directed across the pitch by Beaters (two on each team). The final position is the Keeper, who would defend their team's hoops from opposing Chasers. Games were usually played by mixed teams, although the Holyhead Harpies were an all-female professional team.

Gryffindor Fact File Body Text

One of the four [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) houses, Gryffindor was founded by [Godric Gryffindor](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/godric-gryffindor) and favoured students who possessed characteristics such as courage, bravery and determination. The house colours were scarlet and gold, and the emblematic animal was a lion, which decorated the walls of the [Gryffindor common room](/fact-file/locations/the-gryffindor-common-room). Gryffindor alumni included all seven Weasley children, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, all four Marauders and Albus Dumbledore. Gryffindor students embraced a long held rivalry with Slytherin house although they were largely friendly with Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff students.

The Goblet of Fire Fact File Body Text

The Goblet of Fire was used in the [Triwizard Tournament](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/triwizard-tournament) as a method of choosing Champions to compete. Dumbledore drew an Age Line around the cup to prevent underage students putting their name in, although this wasn't a foolproof method and didn't stop the Goblet choosing [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) - despite the fact he was below the qualifying age of 17, and that only one Champion per school was supposed to be picked. The Weasley twins also learnt that magically ageing themselves would not work, growing lovely, thick white beards when they attempted to do so.
