A curse that could explode its target, Confringo was popular for its use in duels but could also be used to destroy objects and animals. The spell could incapacitate and injure as well as, in some cases, kill. However it wasn't always the most precise spell and for that reason could result in unintended consequences - as Hermione learned the hard way when she inadvertently destroyed Harry's wand.
