Giant Fact File Body Text

Huge creatures of low intelligence, giants have a famously violent nature and are known to remove the heads of their enemies when angered. Growing up to twenty-five feet tall, giants live largely solitary existences, occasionally in small tribes as they are prone to murdering each other if forced into close proximity. Able to speak primitive English and understand basic magic, giants were involved in both the first and second Wizarding Wars, each time on the side of [Lord Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) where they suffered great losses. 

[Rubeus Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) was a half-giant, known to be kind and warm-hearted, which wasn’t usually the case with giants.

The Forbidden Forest was an ominous wooded area, situated on the edges of [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) but out-of-bound to its students. Full of magical creatures and beings, including [unicorns](/fact-file/creatures/unicorn), [Acromantula](/fact-file/creatures/acromantula), [Thestrals](/fact-file/creatures/thestral) and [centaurs](/fact-file/creatures/centaur), the forest was known as a dangerous place for all - except perhaps [Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid).

Fang Fact File Body Text

A giant boarhound, Fang looked imposing but was actually a gentle soul who was devoted to his owner, [Rubeus Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid). Often found with his head on the lap of the nearest witch or wizard looking to have his ears stroked, he would often leave a large pool of drool and some soaked robes behind.

A small wooden cabin set at the edge of the school grounds next to [the Forbidden Forest](/fact-file/locations/the-forbidden-forest), Hagrid's hut was a wholesome place, complete with cosy fire, huge cups of tea fit for a half-[giant](/fact-file/creatures/giant) and of course, [Fang](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fang) the slobbery boarhound. Harry and his friends spent many afternoons at the cabin, enjoying a chat with Hagrid and contending with his large home-made rock cakes.

Aragog Fact File Body Text

Aragog was an [Acromantula](/fact-file/creatures/acromantula) who lived in the [Forbidden Forest](/fact-file/locations/the-forbidden-forest). Cared for by [Rubeus Hagrid](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rubeus-hagrid) as a young spider, Aragog showed some loyalty to the half-[giant](/fact-file/creatures/giant) despite his taste for human-flesh. Eventually as big as a small elephant, Aragog was a terrifying sight, particularly to [Ron Weasley](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley), whose arachnophobia meant that landing in a colony of [giant](/fact-file/creatures/giant) spiders was a real nightmare come true!

Buckbeak Fact File Body Text

Buckbeak, a male [Hippogriff](/fact-file/creatures/hippogriff), was brought to [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) by Hagrid to be studied as part of a Care of Magical Creatures class. Like with all Hippogriffs, Buckbeak expected a level of respect when students approached him - and when [Draco Malfoy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/draco-malfoy) taunted and provoked him, Buckbeak reacted badly and injured him, leading to an investigation by the Ministry. But apart from that, Buckbeak was a helpful and friendly fantastic beast.

Rubeus Hagrid Fact File Body Text

Gamekeeper, Keeper of the Keys and Care of Magical Creatures teacher at [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts). Rubeus Hagrid may have been intimidating physically - he was of course, half-man, half-giant - but he was also soft-hearted, especially when it came to looking after the beasts of Hogwarts. From monstrous spiders to feathered [Hippogriffs](/fact-file/creatures/hippogriff), majestic [unicorns](/fact-file/creatures/unicorn) and Blast-Ended-Skrewts, there was nothing too creepy or crawly that didn't have a place in Hagrid’s heart.  Hagrid was the one to deliver the news to Harry that he had a place at Hogwarts with the immortal line, ‘Harry - yer a wizard’, and became something of a father figure to him ever since.
