Ghost Fact File Body Text

Ghosts were spiritual echoes of living people, left behind after they had passed. In [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts), it was common for ghosts to dwell in the castle, as each [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) house had a representative: [The Fat Friar](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/the-fat-friar) for [Hufflepuff](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/hufflepuff), [Nearly Headless Nick](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/nearly-headless-nick) for [Gryffindor](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/gryffindor), [The Bloody Baron](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/the-bloody-baron) for [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin) and The Grey Lady for [Ravenclaw](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ravenclaw). Other ghosts included the History of Magic professor, [Cuthbert Binns](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/cuthbert-binns), who would not be deterred by a little thing like death from teaching his class. Then there was [Moaning Myrtle](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/moaning-myrtle), a former student who haunted a girls' bathroom after dying in tragic circumstances. Although ghosts could talk to the living, they could not physically interact with the living world - but if a student were to accidentally walk through a ghost, they would experience an icy chill.

Hufflepuff Fact File Body Text

One of the four [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) houses, Hufflepuff was founded by [Helga Hufflepuff](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/helga-hufflepuff) who valued hard work, patience, loyalty and fairness over any particular aptitude in any of her students. Although Hagrid may have once said, 'everyone says Hufflepuff are a lot o' duffers' they were actually well known to be kind, reliable and honest. The house's colours were black and yellow and its emblem a badger. These colours decorated the walls of Hufflepuff's underground [common room](/fact-file/locations/the-hufflepuff-common-room), cosy burrow-like rooms that with beautiful meadow rooms.

Located in a huge sprawling castle in the Scottish highlands, the celebrated school of witchcraft and wizardry taught its young students how to finesse their magical skills. [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts)' very own poltergeist, Peeves enjoyed nothing more than causing chaos in the school corridors. A constant nuisance, no one disliked Peeves more than the school's caretaker, [Argus Filch](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/argus-filch), who was the one tasked with cleaning up the mess. Whether he was throwing things, blowing raspberries or writing rude words on the blackboard, there was nothing Peeves liked best than making mischief!
