Ravenclaw Fact File Body Text

Ravenclaw was one of four [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) houses and prized students whose focus was on learning, wit and wisdom. This reflected the nature of their founder, [Rowena Ravenclaw](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rowena-ravenclaw) who was known to be a woman of remarkable diligence and intelligence. [The Ravenclaw common room](/fact-file/locations/the-ravenclaw-common-room) was decorated with the house colours of blue and bronze along with their eagle emblem. The students were able to study hard in the rooms that were full of tables and bookcases, although if they were unable to solve the bronze knocker’s riddle they couldn't get in until someone arrived who could!

Slytherin Fact File Body Text

Slytherin was one of the four [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) houses and was characterised by its silver and green colours and serpent emblem. The [Slytherin common room ](/fact-file/locations/the-slytherin-common-room)was located in the castle's [dungeons](/fact-file/locations/the-dungeons). Founded by [Salazar Slytherin](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/salazar-slytherin), the students sent to Slytherin were representative of his preference for characters defined by cunning, resourcefulness and ambition. Alas, Salazar's anti-Muggle stance and belief that Hogwarts should be for [pure-blooded](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/pure-blood) students only gave the house a poor reputation. Suspicions about the house's connections to the [Dark Arts](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/dark-arts) were hard to dispel, particularly as it was the house of Lord Voldemort and boasted a number of [Death Eaters](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/death-eaters) and their children. However, Slytherin had a lot of members that contradicted this reputation. For instance, renowned wizard Merlin reigned from Slytherin, and some of the future generations, such as [Draco Malfoy](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/draco-malfoy)'s son [Scorpius](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/scorpius-malfoy), proved that you could be a Slytherin and still be kind.

Located in a huge sprawling castle in the Scottish highlands, the celebrated school of witchcraft and wizardry taught its young students how to finesse their magical skills. [Slytherin](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/slytherin)'s ghost, The Bloody Baron was terrifying in appearance. The silver blood on his clothes was a clue to his death, and the horrible crimes that preceded it. Sent by [Rowena Ravenclaw](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/rowena-ravenclaw) to find and return her runaway daughter, Helena, tragedy struck when she refused to go home with him, ending in her bloody murder. The Bloody Baron then killed himself in deep regret, returning to [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) as a [ghost](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/ghost) and carrying heavy chains as a symbol of his repentance.

Her house encouraged these qualities in its students, and as a result, boasted some of the cleverest and highest achieving witches and wizards at the school. However, Rowena's history was mired in tragedy. Rowena's daughter Helena was murdered after stealing her mother's enchanted diadem and running away.
