Albus Dumbledore Fact File Body Text

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore was Headmaster of [Hogwarts](/fact-file/locations/hogwarts) and the founder of the [Order of the Phoenix](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/order-of-the-[phoenix](/fact-file/creatures/phoenix)), an organisation dedicated to defeating [Lord Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort). With a penchant for Muggle sweets and a beard long enough to be tucked into his belt, Dumbledore's quirky exterior should not be taken too lightly, for there was nothing that got past this great wizard. Dumbledore was a father figure for [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter), and known to be the only wizard that Voldemort ever feared.

A man of many achievements, Dumbledore helped develop the [Philosopher's Stone](/fact-file/objects/the-philosophers-stone) with his friend, Nicolas Flamel, and was credited with discovering the twelve uses of dragon's blood.

Harry Potter was prophesied to be the downfall of [Lord Voldemort](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/lord-voldemort) and therefore singled out at birth as the Dark Lord's rival. He was known in the wizarding world as 'The Boy Who Lived' after becoming the only known survivor of [the Killing Curse](/fact-file/spells/the-killing-curse), which was attempted by Voldemort when Harry was just a baby, after both his parents were murdered. But despite causing one of the most famous wizarding world events, Harry did not know he was a wizard until his eleventh birthday, due to his Muggle aunt and uncle neglecting to tell him. He would eventually go on to Hogwarts, discover his magical potential, and embark upon several great adventures with his best friends, [Ron](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/ron-weasley) and [Hermione](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/hermione-granger).

Some children born to wizarding families would never come to display any magical talent or skill whatsoever. Essentially the reverse of [Muggle-borns,](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggle-borns) Squibs were effectively [Muggles](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles) forced to live in the wizarding world but unable to fully access it, although they were able to see things hidden from normal [Muggles](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/muggles). Some children were revealed as late-bloomers rather than Squibs, such as [Neville Longbottom](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/neville-longbottom), but for others (such as school caretaker [Argus Filch](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/argus-filch)) their magic would simply never materialise, which could be hard to accept.

Order of the Phoenix Fact File Body Text

A secret society founded by Dumbledore to oppose Lord Voldemort and his [Death Eaters](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/death-eaters). The original Order was created in the 1970s but came back into existence in 1995 after Lord Voldemort returned following the final task of the [Triwizard Tournament](/fact-file/magical-miscellany/triwizard-tournament). The Order was led by Dumbledore along with Kingsley Shacklebolt and Alastor 'Mad Eye' Moody and their base was  established at [twelve Grimmauld Place](/fact-file/locations/number-twelve-grimmauld-place), the Black family home. During the Second Wizarding War, the Order remained as an underground resistance force.

Dementor Fact File Body Text

One of the most terrifying creatures in the wizarding world, Dementors were wraithlike creatures that fed on human happiness and generated terrible feelings of despair within any person in close proximity. In the worst case scenario, a Dementor's Kiss would allow the Dementor to consume a human's soul, leaving them in a vegetative state. Although they were used as guards for the prison, [Azkaban](/fact-file/locations/azkaban), Dementors were not known to permanently inhabit any other location. The only way to protect against Dementors was with [the Patronus Charm](/fact-file/spells/the-patronus-charm) and consuming chocolate would also alleviate some of the side effects of their close presence. [Harry Potter](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/harry-potter) was particularly affected by the Dementors due to the murder of his parents, to which his teacher, [Professor Lupin](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/remus-lupin), assured him was "nothing to do with weakness", and that "the Dementors affect you worse than the others because there are horrors in your past that the others don’t have."

Phoenix Fact File Body Text

The phoenix is a rare but powerful magical bird, able to burst into flames and be reborn from the ashes. As a result, they can live to a very old age. Resplendent in crimson and gold, phoenixes have tails as long as a peacock with feathers that glow faintly in the dark. In the wild, phoenixes can be found on mountain peaks but they can also in rare cases, be domesticated, making very loyal pets. [Albus Dumbledore's](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/albus-dumbledore) pet phoenix, [Fawkes](/fact-file/characters-and-pets/fawkes) demonstrated these qualities along with the ability to cure injuries with his tears and to carry huge weights.
